Georgia hosts Archery In Schools Tournament Friday

Close to 400 students throughout the state will compete on Friday, Feb. 13, in the third annual National Archery in the Schools Georgia State Tournament. The best-of-the-best from elementary, middle and high schools in 16 schools (from 13 counties) will convene in Perry for the tournament. The event will take place in the Miller Murphy Howard building near the West Gate of the Georgia National Fairgrounds.

Team USA got of to a shaky start in this match against Italy where several arrows in the early round went astray, while Italy was rock steady. Slowly, slowly the ladies from America shot their way back into this archery match and ended up with a commanding lead. Take a look.

Emily Wright pays tribute to the 1000 Arrow Challenge

A Kayaker, Canoer, and Nordic Skier, Emily Wright has her hands full of training. She took some time however to watch our USA Olympic archers take on the 1000 Arrow Challenge and took some great photos. Check them out.

On a normal day (over the course of 8 hours), the archers might shoot between 200-300 arrows. 1000 arrows is over three times the normal training load. To put things into perspective, that would be like us kayakers taking our normal 2-3 hours on the water daily and multiplying it into a 9-hour continuous paddle Yikes. Talk about over-distance training.
