Just a quick reminder to our archers … archery practice is now on Saturdays. No archery practice tonight.

Chomper the VelociraptorThis past Saturday we had a ‘Naming Shoot Off” for our new Velociraptor 3D target. (We call it a Velociraptor even though Logan swears it’s really a Deinonychus.) The kids and coaches shot the submitted names written on cards. The cards that were hit, were then left on the target. Hunter Williams got the honor of shooting at the remaining names. Our new friend is now named “Chomper the Velociraptor”. Chomper will next make an appearance at our Archery Festival on November 5th!

Due to the naming of Chomper, we ran late on time. The Krout Family had organized events for our Coaches Shootout. We have lots of candy left over, so this Saturday, we’ll let the kids shoot on 20m and 30m targets for a chance to win the candy; 3 arrows for $1. Thanks again to the Krout Family!

10:00am – Field Setup
10:30am – Practice Begins
12noon – Field Cleanup

See you Saturday!

Hello Archers!

It’s that time of year that we run out of daylight to keep practicing on Tuesday nights. Starting tomorrow, September 10th, we’ll be practicing on Saturday mornings. Here are the times:

  • 10:00am – Field setup
  • 10:30am – Archery Practice Begins
  • 12noon – Archery Practice Ends with Field Cleanup

This last Tuesday, our talk was on “What drive it takes to be the best archer in the world!” This week, the presentation will be on “How to find joy and balance in the sport of archery“.

I hope that if you haven’t been able to make the Tuesday practices, that you’ll join us on Saturdays. If you’ve been with us on Tuesdays, we hope you will continue to join us for Saturday practices.

See you soon!

Hello Archers,

I’m looking forward to a great practice tonight. It’s going to be really hot. We’re lucky in that we have some good shade close to the woods but the shooting line and targets will be in the sun.

Here’s some tips to remember when shooting archery in hot conditions:

  1. Drink plenty of water. Start drinking water before the practice or tournament!!!
  2. Cut down on caffeine when it is hot out.
  3. Wear lightweight, light-colored clothing.
  4. Hats. You make your own shade wherever you go.
  5. Take frequent breaks. Just a few minutes sitting in a chair in the shade in between ends can help you recover a good bit.
  6. Be sure to stay well hydrated before, during and after your activity.
  7. Stay in the shade as much as possible. It won’t eliminate the danger from the heat, but it will keep you a few degrees cooler than if you were in the sunlight.

We’ll have our normal snacks and drinks for sale tonight, but we will also have 5 gallon cooler of water. I highly recommend bringing your own water as well, and lots of it.

Archery is all about the smiles it creates and the friendships we form while competing in our sport. Lets have a great, safe practice tonight.

See you then!

We might have some rain but it doesn’t look like there is any severe weather that will be hitting us. Please dress appropriately for a bit of rain.

Hope to see you tonight!

Hello Archers!

We’re on for archery today! We’ve finally got (marginally) good weather for archery.

We’ve got some things coming up coming up so here are some reminders:

[1] We have some mail in tournaments this month and next. Mail in Tournaments are tournaments we hold at our park and mail in the results. If you would like to participate in both tournaments please bring in $13 ($10 JOAD + $3 4-H) to practice this weekend or next. If you want to just participate in the 4-H tournament, then just bring in the $3.

[2] The JOAD State Indoor tournament is Feb 13th. Registration is $25 per archer, +$15 each additional archer, $50 max per family. The tournament is in Conyers. Please check our web site for more information. The GAA State Indoor tournament is Feb 14th. $25 per archer, +$15 each additional archer, $50 max per family. NAA dress code required.

[3] The 4-H State Indoor tournament is Feb 27th. Registration is $15 per archer. Register through our club. Deadline to notify our club is Feb 6th. Please have money and forms submitted by that time.

[4] For today, it won’t be exactly that warm. What I recommend is that you wear a coat. I recommend archers taking off the coat for shooting, and then putting them back on in between shoots and for pulling arrows. Please remember to not wear loose clothing during shooting. The string can “grab” a coat and rip it. This also applies to long hair and jewlery. Please have long hair tied back.

That’s it for the news! I hope to see you all later today!

Sub freezing temperatures here in Georgia has caused us to cancel archery this week. We’re hoping to be back in action next Saturday!

There are lots of announcements coming up about mini-club tournaments, indoor tournaments, and more! Please check back with the web site for the latest.
