The archer raises his bow slowly, adjusting his position until the arrow is aligned to strike the small circle several meters away. He takes his time to block everything but the target from his mind, taking a slow, deep breath before gently releasing the arrow. In the time it takes to blink, the arrow has struck the target and sunk deeply into the foam.

SIUC is home to numerous outdoor clubs, two of which focus on shooting. The Saluki Shooters are an archery club, and the trap and skeet club specializes in shotgun shooting. Members of both clubs store their respective weapons and firearms in lockers at the SIUC Department of Public Safety. The lockers are free for students.

A great time was had by all. We came up with a different type of game where the kids where shooting through the balloons to hit randomly placed values on post-its. Good fun and the kids learned something about scoring in a tournament as well. What a great 2007/2008. We’re looking forward to a great 2008/2009.

Many of you have received this postcard in the mail, but in case that you haven’t, please mark this down on your calendar and RSVP back to Allyne if you are planning on attending. We want to end our season on a high note, and that can only happen if you join us!

We’ve made great strides as individuals and as a team this year. The coaches and parents of the Forsyth County Archery Club are very proud of our archers.

We’re planning a year end party before our break in September. Stay tuned for the location announcement. We’ll planning on events starting at approximately 6pm.

Coach Jeremy and Coach Mike won’t be able to make practice tonight.

Coach Kevin never surrenders though!!! We’re still on. I want a chance to talk about the Olympics starting tomorrow, and talk about the Gainesville Moonlight Madness 900 Tournament coming up in a couple of weeks.

I’ll be checking the radar right before I leave, but plan on attending. I’ll send out an email from this site if things change and there is a cancellation. If you haven’t done so already, please register with this sight and you’ll be getting the emails.

See you at Sawnee Mtn. Park at 7pm!

Wow, it was hot. I believe it was 95 in the shade, but everyone had a great time. I am so proud and impressed by our archers. Each of them shot 90 arrows in the competition, and that doesn’t count the practice arrows. I’m seeing a lot of progress in their skills, but I’m also seeing good attitude and a camaraderie building within our team.

A big thank you goes to the Gainesville Archery club for putting on this great tournament. We’ll definitely be back in August for the night shoot.

Here are the results for our archers:

Adult Male Traditional - Kevin Cully :: 416-1
Young Adult Traditional - Caleb Williams :: 313-0
Young Adult Male Open - Logan Cully :: 134-0
Youth Open - Griffin Cully :: 376-1
Youth Recurve - Nikelas Kekel :: 589-3
