The Forsyth County Archery Club is a member of 4-H, but the club is also a member of JOAD which stands for Junior Olympic Archery Development.

JOAD Pins

Earn JOAD Pins

JOAD has a great program that allows archers to shoot for a qualifying score to win pins. The scores start out easy enough with some practice, but as the child earns the pins, the requirements gets harder and harder. The JOAD pin program has different requirements for the pins for the indoor distances compared to the outdoor distances. The kids just love this program, and to earn the higher pins is certainly worthy of bragging rights.

Membership in the club covers the costs of the pins. The lanyard (ribbon) shown in the picture only costs $3 to purchase.

During the JOAD pin shoots, most archers participate in the shoot, however our club still has beginner lessons for those new to archery. Won’t you come out and join us?

Here’s your chance to shoot life-size targets of all kinds of animals and maybe even some aliens and other creatures! This is not a 4-H sanctioned event. All youth and adults are invited to participate. Kids 14 and under can shoot for FREE, and those ages 15-17 shoot for a discounted rate of $10, $15, or $20 depending on if you shoot 50 or 100 targets and if you pre-register at www.r100.org for a $5.00 discount. You can also register on site. The website says that kids 14 and under have to have a paying adult to shoot for free, but we were able to have this fee waived. Also, I’ve heard that really good door prizes and awards are given on Sunday afternoon after the shoot ends. Please direct all questions to Adam McGinnis at 770-337-5430.

Hello Archers!

Just a quick note about the Gainesville 900 Archery Tournament that is tonight. We welcome all team and club members to come out and join us. This tournament is very special to us as the Forsyth Archery Club has been working with the Gainesville Archery Club to arrange this tournament to be hosted here in Forsyth County. This will definitely be the closest archery tournament outside of our club mini-tournaments. Gainesville puts on a great, friendly tournament.

It looks like there may be some light rain tonight with the chance of heavier rain if there are thunderstorms. Please bring some extra clothes, perhaps some rain jackets and umbrellas in addition to the normal tournament items.

Take a look at the tournament packing list for items to bring:

Hello Archers!

We are very excited about the archery tournament tomorrow. As I was saying at the practice, this tournament is a great tournament to get started with. Low pressure, coaches can coach and help the beginners, low cost, and as close of a tournament as we’re going to get! Plus, the people at the Gainesville Archery Club are really, really nice and good friends of our club.

I have contacted the Gainesville Archery Club, and they have agreed to set up a “Beginner” class for some of our new archers. What that means is if you are a beginner and would normally be shooting 50,40, and 30 meters, you will be able to shoot at 30,20, and 10 meters! I hope that this will help make a tournament more “approachable” for those archers on the fence on whether to come to the tournament or not. Please come!

For more information, including a link for directions, check out this page. Click here.

Information:

  • Practice starts: 12pm noon
  • Entrance fee: $15 adults; $10 young adults; $Free – 8yo and younger
  • Team members dress code: Wear white team shirts; blue shirts if you don’t have white.
  • Club members dress code: Wear blue t-shirts if you have them
