Hello Archers!

It’s that time of year that we run out of daylight to keep practicing on Tuesday nights. Starting tomorrow, September 10th, we’ll be practicing on Saturday mornings. Here are the times:

  • 10:00am – Field setup
  • 10:30am – Archery Practice Begins
  • 12noon – Archery Practice Ends with Field Cleanup

This last Tuesday, our talk was on “What drive it takes to be the best archer in the world!” This week, the presentation will be on “How to find joy and balance in the sport of archery“.

I hope that if you haven’t been able to make the Tuesday practices, that you’ll join us on Saturdays. If you’ve been with us on Tuesdays, we hope you will continue to join us for Saturday practices.

See you soon!

Hello Archers,

Tomorrow officially starts our 2012 archery season! We have some changes planned. I wanted to drop you an email to keep you all informed about the changes.

Here are the 2 key points:

  • 2012 dues are staying at $40 per archer, with a family maximum of $100. We’ll start collecting 2012 dues starting August 2nd.
  • We’re expanding club practice! Field setup is 6pm, with practice beginning at 6:30pm to 8pm. Bonus 30 minutes for club members.

Some additional club changes:

  • Shirts are being sold separately from club membership for $15. New members are required to purchase a shirt. If you already have a Forsyth County Archery Club shirt, purchasing the new shirts is optional. The shirts will be the “Team” shirts wich are dry fit fabric, with the multi color bars at the shoulders.
  • We’re starting a new JOAD program called the “Xperience”. Youth archers have the opportunity to earn pins based on (1) Archery range safety; (2) Basic shooting form; (3) Proper shot execution; (4) Practice and training; (5) Grouping arrows/ability to demonstrate technique.
  • We’ll also be creating our own club program called the “Club Achievement Program”. Archers earn badges the more they progress with the program. This program will have both educational and performance based aspects to it. Stay tuned for more details.

Upcoming activities for club members:

  • August 6th – Franklin County Night 900 – $25 first archer; $15 next; $55 max
  • August 13-14 – Wahsega EOY Outing – [ Registration closed]
  • August 20th – Gainesville Night 900 – Bennet Park in Forsyth Co!
  • August 27th – Franklin County 1440 – $25 first archer; $15 next; $55 max
  • September 10th – Archery Practice switches to Saturday mornings

See you for practice starting at the new time of 6:30pm (6pm field setup)!

Hello Archers,

I’m looking forward to a great practice tonight. It’s going to be really hot. We’re lucky in that we have some good shade close to the woods but the shooting line and targets will be in the sun.

Here’s some tips to remember when shooting archery in hot conditions:

  1. Drink plenty of water. Start drinking water before the practice or tournament!!!
  2. Cut down on caffeine when it is hot out.
  3. Wear lightweight, light-colored clothing.
  4. Hats. You make your own shade wherever you go.
  5. Take frequent breaks. Just a few minutes sitting in a chair in the shade in between ends can help you recover a good bit.
  6. Be sure to stay well hydrated before, during and after your activity.
  7. Stay in the shade as much as possible. It won’t eliminate the danger from the heat, but it will keep you a few degrees cooler than if you were in the sunlight.

We’ll have our normal snacks and drinks for sale tonight, but we will also have 5 gallon cooler of water. I highly recommend bringing your own water as well, and lots of it.

Archery is all about the smiles it creates and the friendships we form while competing in our sport. Lets have a great, safe practice tonight.
