Hello Archers!

We had a great time shooting at the 4-H Indoor tournament and Caleb and William made us proud at the US Archery Indoor National Tournament!

Tomorrow, we start our outdoor season that runs through to our Thanksgiving break. We will also be holding our 4-H e-Tournament. For those of you that have signed up and paid the $3 fee per archer, we have special times for you!

First, we’ll be holding our normal lessons and practice for archers not participating in the e-Tournament from 4:00pm to 5:00pm! New archers are welcome. Invite a friend!

  • Practice/Lessons: 4:00pm to 5:00pm

For team members and those participating in the e-Tournament we have extended hours!

  • Field setup: 2:00pm to 2:30pm
  • Sighting/Practice: 2:30pm to 3:00pm
  • e-Tournament: 3:00pm to 5:00pm

It should be beautiful weather tomorrow! Hope to see you there!

We have several things coming up and I wanted to get the word out.

[1] There won’t be any practice this Saturday, 02/27/2010. We’ll resume things on Saturday 03/06/2010 with lessons and the 4-H e-Tournament!

[2] This weekend, we’ve got two archers that will be participating in the JOAD and NAA National Archery Tournament going on in Conyers starting Friday (today) through Sunday. Our best wishes to Caleb and William. We’re proud of you already! Just do your best!

[3] Saturday is the 4-H Indoor Tournament down in Fortson, GA. We’ll be taking about 10 of our archers down to compete starting at 10am. The archers participating should arrive at 9:15am. For more information and maps, visit:

That’s it for this morning! Best of luck to our archers!

The upcoming 4-H Archery Tournament is undergoing a surge of interest! What great news.

Thanks to all your efforts, we have had an overwhelming response for this year’s Indoor Archery Tournament. At the close of registration, we had over 330 registered to shoot on a range that could only accommodate 240. What a great problem to have. For the 296 youth that registered, we are making arrangements to accommodate all that want to participate.

Wow. That’s great news. The 4-H team is working hard on making the most of the range to fit each archer in. This includes splitting the tournament into 5 flights! Last year, there were only three flights. This is great news for the sport of archery!

Now for the bad news … for me at least.

Due to interest by youth, we will not be able to allow adults to participate in this year’s event. Although I know many of your were looking forward to standing on the line with your 4-H’ers, I am sure that each of you will agree that our number one goal is to have our 4-H’ers at the line that day.

I know that our team was going to be sending around 5 coaches to shoot in the Coaches Tournament. Ah well, perhaps next year. I am very happy that this tournament is such a success.

We hope to see you there today!

We just can’t win for the weather. It won’t be snowing tomorrow, but the field will be unusable.

We’re cancelled for Saturday. Stay tuned for an announcement to see if we can have a make-up on Sunday … but I’m not hopeful.

Sorry folks!

When I woke up this morning, it was 41F. Now, it’s 37F with the wind chill below freezing. Basically, it’s miserable outside.

We are moving the practice to tomorrow, but at a special time due to the SuperBowl … or the Puppy Bowl depending on which you follow. (Puppy Bowl line up: http://bit.ly/980UdU) Practice will be from 1pm to 3pm. It will still be chilly tomorrow, but we should have full sun. This will also give us another day to let the field dry out.

We hope to see you there.

We got rained out yesterday, and it’ll be a cold (but sunny!) day today for the “Mail-In JOAD Tournament”. Please show up at Ducktown Park, from 3pm to 5pm. The tournament fee is $10 per archer. We’ll be shooting at 18 meters, 10 ends of 3 arrows. This tournament will help us prepare for the upcoming indoor tournaments.

If you do not want to participate in the tournament, there will be additional targets set-up for practice. We’ll also be holding our “beginners” lessons as usual.

Best of luck to all of our archers in this tournament!

We were supposed to have the JOAD mail-in tournament tomorrow. Rain is likely and the temperatures won’t rise much above freezing, if at all. We’re just going to go ahead and cancel for tomorrow.

We are tentatively scheduling the tournament for Sunday, 01/31/2010, however we’ll be making that call early Sunday morning on whether it will be on or off.

When the tournament is held (Sunday or next weekend) we will be starting at 3pm and going until 5pm. Please arrive promply at the start time. We want to make sure that the kids have enough time to get all 10 ends of 3 arrows.

REMINDER: To participate in this tournament, there is a $10 entrance fee per archer.

Thanks,
Coach Kevin

Hello Archers!

We’re on for archery today! We’ve finally got (marginally) good weather for archery.

We’ve got some things coming up coming up so here are some reminders:

[1] We have some mail in tournaments this month and next. Mail in Tournaments are tournaments we hold at our park and mail in the results. If you would like to participate in both tournaments please bring in $13 ($10 JOAD + $3 4-H) to practice this weekend or next. If you want to just participate in the 4-H tournament, then just bring in the $3.

[2] The JOAD State Indoor tournament is Feb 13th. Registration is $25 per archer, +$15 each additional archer, $50 max per family. The tournament is in Conyers. Please check our web site for more information. The GAA State Indoor tournament is Feb 14th. $25 per archer, +$15 each additional archer, $50 max per family. NAA dress code required.

[3] The 4-H State Indoor tournament is Feb 27th. Registration is $15 per archer. Register through our club. Deadline to notify our club is Feb 6th. Please have money and forms submitted by that time.

[4] For today, it won’t be exactly that warm. What I recommend is that you wear a coat. I recommend archers taking off the coat for shooting, and then putting them back on in between shoots and for pulling arrows. Please remember to not wear loose clothing during shooting. The string can “grab” a coat and rip it. This also applies to long hair and jewlery. Please have long hair tied back.

That’s it for the news! I hope to see you all later today!
