We know that archery is for everyone, requires skill, and discipline. It is also a great way to shed the stress of your job. I guess it’s a natural activity for our boys in blue. Read up on how these California officers are preparing for an upcoming tournament.

This summer, Hensley will take his archery skills to Southern California to participate in the Western State Police & Fire Games, the biggest shooting competition he has entered to date.

“I have no idea what the competition level will be,” he said. “I have no clue. I have no expectation to go home with a trophy. I am going for the experience.”

Lauren Clamon, a Junior Dream Team member from Chula Vista, CA, has been featured as the “Sports Kid of the Month” in the March issue of Sports Illustrated Kids. Clamon, the 2010 National Champion in the recurve cub female category, had a standout 2010 season, setting three JOAD records and one FITA Star record, as well as winning the California State Games and California State Archery Championship.

Alison Williamson

Williamson, who is a member of the Long Mynd archery club in Shropshire, hopes to use the scheduled test event later this year to get a feel for the environment in which she will be competing.

“I’ll be looking at the wind patterns at the stadium, that’s really important in archery,” Williamson added.

Paige Pearce - 2011 Jr. United States Archery Team
The Forsyth County Archery Club would like to congratulate Paige Pearce for again being named to the Jr. US Archery Team.

This year, the JOAD Nationals and Junior World Trials will be held in Sacramento at Discovery Park July 7- 11. Several hundred youth from all over the country will be participating in the tournament vying for one of the three positions per division on the 2011 Junior World Team, which will be traveling to Legnica, Poland in August 2011. A total of 24 archers will make the team.

We’ll be watching Paige shoot alongside Georgia’s own Kailey Johnston at the World Trials!

Take a look at these tree trunks they’re shooting! High-tech tree trunks. Great shooting. I wish they had multi-directional lighting for the target faces. It was a bit difficult to see where the arrow ended and the shadow began. Excellent archery.
