It’s raining cats and dogs outside and that makes for bad archery. Add in the threat of thunderstorms and it’s better for us to cancel practice ahead of time.

There will *not* be any practice next week as well. The team will going to the Gainesville 900 Target tournament and you are invited! Admission is $15 and these folks put on a great tournament. Check out their web site for more information.

MORE INFO COMING! Club members should be on the lookout for more notices later today about changes of our practice time to the summer hours, JOAD information, and team information! Be on the lookout for an email!

As a club we’ve been following Jake’s archery career so I guess you would say we’re fans. Jake was kind enough to share his technique in a video. I keep looking at the great form from his elbow position, relaxed hand, and anchor point. Take a look!

Not much compares to the smiles on kids’ faces when they begin hitting their targets. If you haven’t been to an archery range where kids are learning to shoot, you are missing out on something good. And too often these days, the politically correct parents and the mainstream media suggest that shooting sports are in decline around the country. In fact, studies have shown that if kids aren’t exposed to the awesome lifestyle of the shooting sports by the age of 10, many of them will never pick up a gun or bow and never get a taste of what hunting and other shooting sports have to offer.

Many parents would rather have little Johnny playing soccer instead of shooting arrows. And if it isn’t soccer, it’s other sports, which is all fine and well, but to me, archery offers a little more. How’s that? It’s simple. For one thing, kids don’t have to be athletes. Not all kids are gifted that way. Archery teaches discipline and respect for weaponry. As well as hand-eye coordination.

Holmes was part of the U.S. Archery Recurve team that won a gold medal last Sunday at the 2009 World Archery Indoor Championship in Rzeszów, Poland. He and teammates Brady Ellison and Vic Wunderle defeated Italy to help the United States take top honors in the competition for the first time in eight years.

“It’s still a little bit surreal,” said Holmes, 34, whose first name is pronounced STAY-ten. “It’s pretty overwhelming. You have a lot of emotions running through you.”

The weather man has some bad news for us tomorrow. It is looking like it will be cold AND rainy tomorrow. That’s not good for archery. The weather man might be completely wrong, but we thought that people’s schedules are so full in spring that we’d go ahead and reschedule the tournament. No archery tomorrow, March 14th, 2009.

The make up days are as follows:
DATES: Tuesday, March 17th -OR- Friday, March 20th
TIMES: 4:30pm – 7:00pm
LOCATION: Ducktown Park, Cumming, GA
WHO: All current paid members, and those trying out the club for their first two sessions.
NOTE: You do NOT need to arrive at 4:30pm to participate. Just arrive when you can and we’ll get you started when you are ready.
RSVP: If you could let me know which days you can attend (Tues or Fri or neither) that will help us know what kind of setup we’ll need.

We’ll have normal full club practice on Saturday, March 21st.
