Lauren Hughes practices her craft: archery

“Archery is good because it can help you focus more,” said Hughes, who hopes to study in the medical program at Stanford University and become a surgeon or medical scientist. “It’s a mental game, so it can help you there. And hitting the 10 for the first time is a rush.”

BHP Sponsors Trip to Olympics

Companies don’t have consciences. People do. BHP Billiton must be filled with the best kind of people.

BHP is sponsoring Alfred Ellison and a guest to attend all of his son’s, Brady Ellison, events in Beijing, China.

Way to go BHP! It will be a trip of a lifetime for Mr. Ellison, and I’m sure that Brady will be glad to have his father there to watch him compete.

Yes, it’s booming out there and there’s lots of rain here and there. Things are popping up and disappearing faster than the radar can get a fix on them however.

We’ll leave it up to each parent on whether to attend tonights practice. We’ll be there though.

South Korean archers banned for pulling out of training

South Korea’s world-class archers were ordered to clean up city sewage, stay up all night, stare at dead bodies in a crematory and climb a mountain with a rubber dinghy on their backs.

It’s all part of a training regime designed to toughen them, mentally and physically, for the world outdoor archery championships in Beijing.

But the country’s top four male archers — all Olympic medallists — said the Aug. 7-10 training was too intense and pulled out after one day. The Korea Archery Association banned them from the championship that begins Sept. 15, and from running for the national team for up to five years.

“It’s a bit late to regret it, but we really did not expect to be replaced,” said Kim Bo-ram, ranked fourth in the world.

Face Time: Adam Gallant

Adam Gallant is a shooter. Bows and arrows, that is. Last month, he won the Field Nationals, earning himself a spot on the USA World Field Archery Team heading to Lywynypia, Great Britain, for competition in September. He’ll pay his own way for the privilege. One of the best junior shooters in the United States and a member of the Junior U.S. Archery Team, Adam frequently competes against pros, winning enough to get noticed.
