We’ve been working on a new program to be implemented in our archery club, called the ‘Archery Excellence’ program. We feel that our club members should be more well-rounded in their knowledge of archery and archery skills. So, without further ado, below is the overview of the Archery Excellence program.
Purpose:
To challenge our club members to grow not just in the skill of shooting the bow and arrow, but to learn more about the sport in its entirety. The Archery Experience levels are intended to become much more difficult and thus more prestigious and desired by the archers.
Achievement Levels:
Target Patch – Level 1 :: 3 page test on safety information
White Patch – Level 2 :: 3 page test on archery shot process
Blue Patch – Level 3 :: 1 on 1 shot making test with archery coach
Red Patch – Level 4 :: In depth paper on a prior approved topic by archery coaches
Yellow Patch – Level 5 :: Archery related presentation to the entire club on a prior approved topic separate from Level 4 paper.
As you can see, each level becomes more difficult. We anticipate that to achieve all of the levels, that it would take an archer several years. Do you have questions about the program? We’re here to help. Just ask one of the club coaches and we’ll do our best to answer your questions.
See you at practice!

At practices I’ve been telling our archers about a friend of mine, Lee Ford. Lee is a very inspiring woman that our entire club will be cheering on when she competes in the Paralympics in London.
You’ll also notice in the video, Lee’s coach Jim White. Coach White provided the training for most of our coaches and is currently one of the coaches of the USA Archery Junior Dream Team.
What to bring: A dish or snack to share. Bring your own drinks for your
family.
Why:
– Sometimes it’s good to put down the bows and arrows, and get to know your
fellow club members!
– Do you have any Khaki shorts and pants your kids have outgrown and are in
good shape? Care to donate to another archery family? Khaki swap!
– We’ll also make a couple of short informational presentations:
—- “Where does your club dues go?” plus “Club Q&A”
—- “Call for archery coaches!”
—- “Your archery equipment purchases questions answered”
—- “Tuning your archery equipment”
We have practice once a week. However, that’s not enough to become proficient in archery. We’ve been bringing out archery mirrors to practice for a while now, but now it’s time to add your own archery mirror at home! When you practice with your stretch band, use this list to keep your practice … perfect.
Download this PDF document, print it out and tape it to the mirror that you practice in.
We’re following the Paralympic Games which follow the Olympic Games closely. A friend and archery coach from Kennesaw, Lee Ford, is going to be shooting for the USA Paralympic Archery team. It’s great to learn more about another USA Paralympic Archer Matt Stutzman from Iowa. Take a look:
Four-time Olympic archer Khatuna Lorig was Lawrence’s coach, teaching the Hollywood actress all she needed to know to look like a professional archer on camera.
Lorig, who’s trying to make her fifth Olympic team, said Lawrence was a quick study. “When she draws the string back, she does really well.” Lorig said. “I was surprised; I even told her if she wants to be a professional archer, I think she has potential.”
I hope everyone is safe and secure from the storms that roared through last night.
We have decided to hold practice and our mini-tournament this morning. Yes, it will be wet, and we may get a sprinkle, but I think we’re in the clear. Please dress warmly, in layers. Waterproof shoes, or a change of shoes, might be helpful.
To participate in this 4-H mail-in tournament, we required a registration. We have approximately 15 archers registered. The tournament will be 36 arrows at a single distance. Please allow extra time to complete the tournament as I expect we’ll finish around 1pm or so.
All other archers are welcome to come practice. Of course, we’ll be holding our beginner lessons as well.
Just a quick reminder that there will *NOT* be practice Saturday. The 4-H State Indoor Tournament is that day. Please wish our participating members the best of luck at the tournament tomorrow. It should be a lot of fun!

Coach Kevin Cully

I’m often asked about dress codes for tournaments. I’ve gathered up the dress code effective as of 2010. We’ll also use this dress code for the 4-H tournaments as well. It is important that the Forsyth County Archery Club members present a good image when representing our club.
USAA Dress Code:
1. All athletes and coaches must present a professional, athletic appearance while on the field. (Torn, ripped or badly faded clothing articles are not allowed.) Clothing may be of any color.
2. No camo or blue denim (jeans) may be worn at target events. Accessories such as trim on shirts, caps, quivers, armguards, footwear, etc., are permitted to be camo.
3. Shorts, skorts and skirts must not be shorter than finger tip length while standing normally.
4. Men and women are required to wear upper garments covering the front and back of the body and covering the midriff when at full draw. Women’s upper garments shall have a minimum strap of 3″ or sleeves. Men’s upper garments shall have short or long sleeves.
5. Sport/athletic shoes are recommended to all athletes and coaches during target events. Shoes must cover the entire foot.
6. At no time will any athlete or coach wear any article bearing any image or language to be considered offensive to others.
Forsyth County Archery Club Tournament Dress Code:
1. A club shirt should be worn. If you were unable to purchase a club shirt in time for the tournament, a plain (no logo) colored shirt matching the team color may be worn; royal blue.
2. Khaki bottoms that meet the above guidelines.
3. Full covering shoes. No sandals or open toed shoes.
